Saint-Gobain MARISEAL Detail Thixotropic Polyurethane Waterproofing Membrane Liquid
MARISEAL Detail is a flexible, one-component, thixotropic, polyurethane-based liquid membrane specifically designed for the detailed waterproofing of complex areas and critical junctions. Applied cold, it cures to form a seamless, elastic, and durable membrane with excellent adhesion to various substrates. This product is ideal for sealing around pipes, upstands, corners, construction joints, and other intricate details where standard waterproofing membranes can be challenging to apply effectively. MARISEAL Detail provides a robust and long-lasting solution to prevent water ingress in these vulnerable areas, ensuring the overall integrity of the waterproofing system. Its flexibility allows it to accommodate movement and irregular shapes, making it an essential component for comprehensive and reliable waterproofing.
Consumption: 2.0-3.0 kg/m2 depending on application
- Available colours: White, Grey, Black
- Available sizes: 1 litre, 6 litres
APPLICATION
- Used mainly to create waterproof seals on difficult and complex roofing details such as: wall-floor connections, flashings and 90 degree angles, light domes, roof lights, chimneys, pipes, gutters, antennas, solar panel stands, etc.

How to use
- The surfaces to be treated must be thoroughly clean, dry, and free from any dust, dirt, grease, oils, loose particles, or other contaminants that could hinder adhesion.
- Clean the areas using appropriate methods such as brushing, wiping with a suitable cleaner (ensure it fully evaporates before application), or grinding if necessary to remove any loose material.
- Priming is generally recommended to ensure good adhesion, especially on porous substrates like concrete or where specific substrate conditions require it. Use the appropriate MARISEAL primer as recommended by the manufacturer for the specific substrate. Allow the primer to fully cure before applying MARISEAL Detail.
- For neat and precise application, especially around edges or where the detail meets another surface, consider using masking tape. Remove the tape carefully after application but before the product has fully cured.
- MARISEAL Detail is typically a one-component product, so thorough stirring before use is usually sufficient to ensure a uniform consistency.
- Apply MARISEAL Detail using a brush, roller (small roller for detail work), or a spatula/trowel, depending on the specific detail and access. For very intricate areas, a brush is often the most suitable tool.
- Apply a sufficient amount of MARISEAL Detail to achieve the required wet film thickness, which will result in the specified dry film thickness for effective waterproofing. Refer to the product's technical data sheet for recommended consumption rates. Apply in a consistent and even layer, ensuring full coverage of the detail area.
- For many detail applications, especially around joints, corners, and where movement is expected, reinforcement with a suitable polyester fleece or fabric (like MARISEAL Fabric) is crucial.
- Apply a layer of MARISEAL Detail onto the prepared surface. While it's still wet, embed the reinforcement fabric into the membrane, ensuring it's fully saturated and wrinkle-free. Overlap the fabric at joints by the recommended amount (typically 5-10 cm). Then, apply a second layer of MARISEAL Detail over the fabric to fully encapsulate it.
- Be aware that MARISEAL Detail will begin to cure upon exposure to atmospheric moisture. Work efficiently once the container is opened.
- The curing time will depend on the ambient temperature and humidity. Allow sufficient time for MARISEAL Detail to fully cure before exposing it to water or further construction work. Refer to the technical data sheet for typical curing times.
- Protect the freshly applied membrane from rain, dust, and other contaminants during the curing process.
- Once cured, inspect the detailed areas to ensure complete and uniform coverage, with no pinholes or thin spots. Touch up any imperfections with additional MARISEAL Detail as needed, following the same application guidelines.
- If masking tape was used, remove it carefully once the product is touch-dry but before it's fully cured to avoid tearing the membrane edge.
Specific Detail Types:
- Pipe Penetrations: Apply MARISEAL Detail generously around the pipe where it meets the substrate, ensuring a good seal. Reinforcement fabric is often used, wrapping it around the pipe and onto the surrounding surface.
- Internal and External Corners: Apply MARISEAL Detail to the corner, extending a sufficient distance onto the adjacent surfaces. Reinforcement fabric is typically folded and embedded into the wet membrane to bridge the corner.
- Construction Joints: Apply MARISEAL Detail over the joint, ensuring it bridges the gap and extends adequately onto both sides. Reinforcement fabric is essential here to accommodate movement.
- Upstands: Apply MARISEAL Detail to the base of the upstand and up the vertical surface to the required height, ensuring a good seal at the junction with the horizontal surface. Reinforcement fabric is usually used at the angle.
Important Considerations:
- Always consult the official MARISEAL Detail technical data sheet and application guide for detailed and specific instructions.
- Ensure adequate ventilation during application.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves and eye protection.
- Pay attention to the recommended temperature and humidity ranges for application and curing.
