Saint-Gobain MARISEAL 800 Deep Penetrating Water Repellent Liquid
MARISEAL 800 is a transparent, deep-penetrating, solvent-based siloxane/silane water repellent. Designed for cold application, it cures by reacting with ground and atmospheric moisture to provide a non-staining, non-yellowing surface treatment. Rather than forming a film, MARISEAL 800 penetrates the substrate, offering excellent water-repellent properties and protecting against the damaging effects of moisture ingress. It's often used on porous mineral surfaces like concrete, brick, and natural stone to enhance their resistance to rain, frost, and efflorescence, thereby extending their lifespan and maintaining their appearance. It will prevent water penetration and protect surface from ultraviolet degradation, airborne dirt, smog, industrial fumes, acid rain, chloride ions and will stabilise the surface.
Consumption: 0.250-0.380 litres/m2 in one or two layers
- Transparent
- Available sizes: 1 litre, 5 litres, 13 litres, 20 litres
APPLICATION
- Used for the protection of natural stones, marble, decorative bricks, coloured concrete, roof tiles.
CHARACTERISTICS

- Deep-penetrating formula.
- Cold-applied and cold-curing.
- Cures by reacting with ground and atmospheric moisture.
- Provides excellent water-repellent properties.
- Non-staining and non-yellowing.
- Does not form a surface film; it penetrates the substrate.
- Protects against rain, frost, and efflorescence.
- Enhances the resistance of porous mineral surfaces to moisture ingress.
- Suitable for concrete, brick, and natural stone.
- Helps to extend the lifespan of treated surfaces.
- Maintains the natural appearance of the substrate.
- Easy to apply.
How to use
- The surface to be treated must be clean, dry, and free from dust, dirt, grease, oils, moss, algae, loose particles, and any previous coatings or sealants that could prevent penetration.
- Use appropriate cleaning methods such as brushing, washing with water (ensure the surface is thoroughly dry before application – allow sufficient drying time, potentially several days depending on porosity and weather conditions), or pressure washing (use with caution on softer materials). Remove any biological growth with suitable biocides and ensure they are fully rinsed away.
- Repair any cracks or damaged areas in the substrate before applying MARISEAL 800.
- The substrate must be dry before application. The level of dryness is crucial for proper penetration. Allow sufficient drying time after cleaning, especially for porous materials.
- MARISEAL 800 is typically ready to use and does not require mixing. However, it's good practice to gently stir the product before application to ensure uniformity.
- MARISEAL 800 can be applied using a brush, roller, or low-pressure spray equipment. Low-pressure spraying is often the most efficient method for larger areas.
- Apply MARISEAL 800 generously and evenly, ensuring the surface is saturated. For very porous substrates, a second application while the first is still wet ("wet-on-wet") may be beneficial to maximise penetration. Avoid allowing the product to pool on the surface.
- Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for the appropriate application rate, which will vary depending on the porosity of the substrate.
- While saturation is important, avoid excessive run-off. Wipe away any drips or runs promptly.
- Apply MARISEAL 800 in dry weather conditions when rain is not expected for at least 4-6 hours. Avoid application in strong winds or direct sunlight during very hot temperatures, as this can lead to rapid evaporation and reduced penetration. The ideal application temperature is typically between +5°C and +35°C.
- MARISEAL 800 cures by reacting with atmospheric and substrate moisture.
- The surface will typically be touch-dry relatively quickly, but full water-repellent properties will develop over a period of several hours to a few days, depending on environmental conditions and the porosity of the substrate.
- Protect the treated surface from rain for at least 4-6 hours after application to allow the initial curing process to take place.
Important Considerations:
- Always consult the MARISEAL 800 technical data sheet for detailed instructions and specific recommendations for different substrates.
- Perform a test application on a small, inconspicuous area first to assess the suitability of the product and the desired effect on the specific substrate, especially regarding any potential changes in appearance (although MARISEAL 800 is designed to be non-staining).
- Protect adjacent surfaces (e.g., windows, painted areas, non-porous materials) from accidental contact with MARISEAL 800, as it can be difficult to remove once it has dried. Clean any splashes immediately with a suitable solvent as recommended by the manufacturer.
- Ensure adequate ventilation during application, especially in enclosed spaces.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, eye protection, and respiratory protection in poorly ventilated areas.
- Do not apply MARISEAL 800 to frozen or damp substrates.
