Saint-Gobain MARISEAL 460 Aliphatic Polyurethane Top-Coat - Liquid Membrane
MARISEAL 460 is a premium, one-component, liquid-applied, polyurethane waterproofing membrane designed for demanding applications. It's formulated to be highly elastic and exhibits excellent resistance to abrasion and mechanical stress. This cold-applied and cold-curing membrane provides long-lasting, heavy-duty waterproofing protection for areas subject to significant wear and tear, such as car park decks, bridges, and industrial floors. MARISEAL 460 cures by reacting with atmospheric moisture, forming a seamless, robust, and flexible layer with strong adhesion to various substrates. Its advanced formulation ensures exceptional durability and resistance to a wide range of environmental factors, making it a reliable choice for projects requiring a high-performance waterproofing solution that can withstand heavy use.
Consumption: 1.40-2.5 kg/m2 in two or three layers
- Available colours: White, Light Grey, Blue Grey
- Available sizes: 6 kg, 25kg
APPLICATION
- Used for the waterproofing of roofs and concrete constructions
- For the protection over PUR spray foam.
CHARACTERISTICS
- One-component, liquid-applied polyurethane membrane.
- Designed for heavy-duty waterproofing applications.
- Cold-applied and cold-curing.
- Moisture-cured (reacts with atmospheric moisture).
- Forms a highly elastic and robust membrane.
- Excellent resistance to abrasion and mechanical stress.
- Provides long-lasting waterproofing protection.
- Strong adhesion to various substrates.
- Seamless application.
- High durability and resistance to a wide range of environmental factors.
- Suitable for car park decks, bridges, and industrial floors.
- Can withstand significant wear and tear.
- Flexible to accommodate structural movement.
How to use
- The substrate must be thoroughly clean, dry, and free from any contaminants such as dust, grease, oils, loose particles, old coatings, or organic matter.
- Use appropriate methods like grinding, sandblasting, or thorough cleaning with suitable detergents (ensure the surface is fully rinsed and dried afterwards). Important: The manufacturer specifically warns not to wash the surface with water.
- Repair any cracks, holes, or uneven areas with suitable repair compounds.
- Priming is essential to ensure proper adhesion. Use the recommended MARISEAL primer for the specific substrate.
- The maximum moisture content of the substrate should typically not exceed 5%.
- Ensure the substrate has sufficient compressive strength (at least 25 MPa) and cohesive bond strength (at least 1.5 MPa).
- New concrete should be allowed to cure for at least 28 days.
- MARISEAL 460 is typically a one-component product, so mixing is usually not required. However, stir the material thoroughly before use to ensure uniformity.
- MARISEAL 460 can be applied by brush, roller, or airless spray. Airless spray is generally recommended for larger areas to achieve a uniform thickness.
- Apply the product in one or more layers to achieve the total recommended dry film thickness. Multiple thin layers are generally better than one thick layer to ensure proper curing and avoid blistering.
- For areas subject to significant movement, cracks, or joints, reinforcement with MARISEAL Fabric (or a similar approved reinforcement fleece) is highly recommended. Apply a layer of MARISEAL 460, embed the fabric while it's wet, ensuring it's fully saturated, and then apply subsequent layers over the fabric. Overlap the fabric at the joints by the recommended amount (typically 5-10 cm).
- For joints and cracks, apply a strip of MARISEAL 460 (around 200mm wide, centred over the joint) and immediately embed MARISEAL Fabric into the wet coating, pressing it firmly.
- Be aware that MARISEAL 460 contains a catalyst for faster curing. Work efficiently once the container is opened.
- The curing time depends on temperature and humidity. MARISEAL 460 offers fast curing. Refer to the technical data sheet for specific touch-dry, light pedestrian traffic, and full curing times. Rain stability can be achieved relatively quickly (e.g., within 18 hours under standard conditions). Final curing typically takes around 7 days.
- Protect the freshly applied membrane from rain, dust, and other contaminants during the initial curing phase.
- After curing, inspect the membrane for any defects, pinholes, or areas with insufficient thickness. Repair as needed.
- While MARISEAL 460 is UV stable and abrasion-resistant, a coloured topcoat (like MARISEAL 420) can be applied for enhanced aesthetics or additional protection in very demanding environments.
Important Considerations:
- Always consult the official MARISEAL 460 technical data sheet and application guide for detailed and specific instructions.
- Ensure adequate ventilation during application.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, eye protection, and respiratory protection.
- Pay close attention to the recommended temperature and humidity ranges for application and curing.
