Saint-Gobain MARISEAL 420 Aliphatic Polyurethane Top-Coat - Liquid Membrane
MARISEAL 420 is a premium, one-component, liquid-applied, polyurethane waterproofing topcoat. It's designed for cold application and cold curing, forming a durable, abrasion-resistant, and colour-stable finish. This product is specifically formulated to be applied over MARISEAL polyurethane waterproofing membranes, providing enhanced protection against weathering, UV radiation, and mechanical wear. MARISEAL 420 extends the lifespan of the underlying waterproofing layer and offers an aesthetically pleasing, coloured finish. It cures by reacting with atmospheric moisture, adhering well to the MARISEAL membranes. This topcoat is ideal for areas subject to foot traffic or requiring a specific colour, such as balconies, terraces, and walkways, ensuring both long-term protection and an improved appearance.
Consumption: 0.40-0.60 kg/m2 in two layers
- Available colours: White, Light Grey, Silver Grey
- Available sizes: 1 kg, 5 kg, 10kg, 20kg
Transparent: available sizes 1kg, 5kg, 17kg
APPLICATION

How to use
- Ensure the waterproofing layer is fully cured. This is crucial for proper adhesion.
- The surface of the cured waterproofing membrane must be clean, dry, and free from any dust, dirt, grease, or other contaminants that could impair adhesion of the topcoat.
- Clean the surface thoroughly, if necessary.
- MARISEAL 420 is a one-component product, so typically only thorough stirring is required before use to ensure a uniform consistency and colour.
- MARISEAL 420 can be applied using a brush, roller, or airless spray. The choice of method will depend on the size of the area and the desired finish.
- Apply MARISEAL 420 in one or two layers, as recommended by the manufacturer, to achieve the desired thickness and colour uniformity. Avoid applying too thick a single layer, as this could affect curing.
- Always consult the technical data sheet for the recommended consumption rate.
- Ensure even and uniform coverage across the entire surface of the underlying waterproofing membrane. Avoid pooling or thin spots.
- Be aware that MARISEAL 420 will begin to cure upon exposure to atmospheric moisture. Work efficiently once the container is opened.
- MARISEAL 420 cures by reacting with atmospheric moisture.
- The curing time will depend on the ambient temperature and humidity.
- Allow sufficient time for the topcoat to fully cure before subjecting it to foot traffic or other stresses.
- Protect the freshly applied topcoat from rain, dust, and other contaminants during the initial stages of curing.
- Once cured, inspect the topcoat for any imperfections or areas with insufficient coverage.
- Touch up as needed, following the same application guidelines.
Important Considerations:
- MARISEAL 420 is specifically designed as a topcoat for MARISEAL polyurethane waterproofing membranes. Ensure compatibility before application.
- Always consult the official technical data sheet and application guide for MARISEAL 420 for detailed instructions, including recommended application rates, mixing instructions (if any specific requirements exist), curing times, and safety precautions.
- Pay attention to the ambient temperature and humidity during application and curing, as these can affect the product's performance. Avoid application in very low temperatures or high humidity unless specifically permitted by the manufacturer's guidelines.
- Ensure adequate ventilation in the work area during application.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear appropriate PPE, such as gloves and eye protection, when handling and applying MARISEAL 420.
